Dr. Sean M. Wheeler, M.D.
Sports medicine and pain physician
The clinic
Body Guitar Clinic is more than a diagnostic shop. We help you understand how the body works, what causes musculoskeletal pain, and why we recommend a given plan. The approach is non-narcotic and physical-therapy-centered.
Sports medicine expert Dr. Wheeler has long been obsessed with pain. How pain affects the human body. How pain, or the lack of it, affects behavior, athletic competitiveness, and everyday quality of life—for the athlete, and for you. That obsession became a career investigating pain, which led to a different way of thinking about low back pain: tuning your Body Guitar.

His patient-exam skills, an ego-less approach to what the patient actually needs, surgical training, and sports medicine immersion led him to challenge more than 40 years of commonly accepted ways to treat back, neck, and shoulder pain.
Dr. Wheeler serves or has served as team physician for NCAA, NAIA, and NJCAA programs, and is an invited speaker to university athletics departments and medical groups.
As an undergraduate he attended Texas Christian University and Kansas State University, playing NCAA football at both, before receiving a Bachelor of Science in biology from Kansas State. He was awarded a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Kansas School of Medicine. He completed residency at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas, and later completed fellowships in Sports Medicine and Pain Management. He also trained with Dr. James R. Andrews.
Among the first physicians board-certified in both Sports Medicine and Pain Management, Dr. Wheeler holds four board certifications: the American Board of Family Medicine; the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Subspecialty of Pain Medicine; the American Board of Family Medicine, Certificate of Added Qualification in Sports Medicine; and the American Board of Pain Medicine.

Dr. Wheeler and the entire staff are fantastic. The skill, the urgency, the compassion to get my back pain under control. And then the plan to understand the why I was having issues.
I've been seeing Dr. Wheeler for many years. I am extremely confident in his work. He is highly skilled as a pain management doctor, professional, and friendly.
I went in with awful headaches starting in the back of my neck. He had a spine in his office to show and explain his diagnosis in a way that the patient could understand. My headaches are so much better.
I drove my mom more than 400 miles for her to see him. He was able to alleviate her back pain that had bothered her for the past 6 years. She had seen several doctors where she lives but nobody had any answers.
Dr. Wheeler read my MRI while I was present. He was able to show me exactly why my shoulder was hurting. He gave me exercises to do at home. They treat us like family.
Dr. Wheeler was extremely patient, kind, respectful, and knowledgeable. He and his staff are excellent.
